A survey of values, technologies and contexts in pervasive healthcare

چکیده
We argue that pervasive computing technologies for elderly care can have beneficial and harmful ethical implications. At the heart of these ethical implications lie the effects technologies have on human values, such as well-being, autonomy and privacy. A technology’s functions influence how if affects values. These functions are the result of design decisions. So, design can play a part in dealing with ethical implications. We argue that by understanding the relationship between values and technologies in this domain, designers will be in a better position to account for values explicitly, and hence address ethical implications, throughout design. To foster such an understanding, we survey literature on pervasive computing for elderly care, and identify values, technologies and contexts discussed there. We develop a taxonomy to categorize our findings, which serves as a basis to identify and analyze relationships between values, technologies and contexts in pervasive computing for elderly care. With this analysis, we aim to help designers consider the ethical implications of their designs. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...
متن کاملPervasive Computing for Hospital, Chronic, and Preventive Care
An emerging area of great impact and significance is the application of pervasive computing technologies in healthcare. Pervasive healthcare refers to the set of technologies designed to seamlessly integrate health education, interventions, and monitoring technology into our everyday lives, regardless of space and time. This approach can increase both the coverage and quality of care. Over the ...
متن کاملEmpirical Study of Nova Scotia Nurses’ Adoption of Healthcare Information Systems: Implications for Management and Policy-Making
Background This paper used the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which was extended, to investigate nurses’ adoption of healthcare information systems (HIS) in Nova Scotia, Canada. Methods Data was collected from 197 nurses in a survey and data analysis was carried out using the partial least squares (PLS) technique. Results In contrast to findings in prior studies that used TPB to investig...
متن کاملOntology Model-based Situation and Socially-Aware Health Care Service in a Smart Home Environment
With the brilliant advance of ubiquitous technologies, it is possible to provide more smart and pervasive healthcare services in a smart home environment. Despite of these remarkable advances of technologies, there are few smart home-based personalized healthcare services which fully consider not only user’s current situation but also user’s social relationship. In this paper, we try to model c...
متن کاملFormal Method in Service Composition in Heath Care Systems
One of the areas with greatest needs having available information at the right moment and with high accuracy is healthcare. Right information at right time saves lives. Healthcare is a vital domain which needs high processing power for high amounts of data. Due to the critical and the special characteristics of these systems, formal methods are used for specification, description and verificati...
